In Cloud Nine - Hubby at Desigual

August was my last month at the Memory Maze DT and this layout was made for my final post for this great, Australian  chipboard manufactorer :-(



As you may know, I took my Family to London, UK, this Easter Break. We had a blast, and there was only one shop I really wanted to visit: Desigual - I just love their happy clothes. I think it became hubby's favourite shop too, when the shop keeper offered him a cold beer while he was waiting for me trying outfits.

Non Memory Maze products used: CS (Bazill), shopping bag (Desigual), cut outs (Crate papers), alpha (AC), Badge (the Paper Bakery), Ink (Ranger), stamp (Kaisercraft), sewing machine, pen

 

The background is made from the paper shopping bag received in the store. It's rather busy, so I used the biggest chipboard piece from a corner set to tie the center cluster together. The chipboard is covered with gesso, inked up in blue and stamped with a grid stamp.

Family Fun!

It's sad, but this is my last month as a DT member for the chipboard manufactorer Memory Maze. The owner will focus on the home marked for a while and had all the international designers let go :-( But hopefully she'll change her mind in a while and give us a second chance, because I really have had a great time creating with their chipboards.

So I have written my last post (for a while) at the Memory Maze blog, and in this post I give some examples on how to use these corner ornaments:

Layout sketches - great for cards, too!

Have you ever tried using a layout sketch for cards?
Layout sketches are great to get inspiration for cards, too, not pages only. Let's look at an example:

A tip on how to use 6*6 background chipboards on cards.

I often feel using an entire 6*6 chipboard on a card makes it look heavy.
Cutting the chipboard in several pieces is a good option for both stretching your supplies and to give more air to the card.

Here is two examples on how I cut a chicken wire chipboard (Memory Maze) in to and used on two different cards:

Do you, like (lazy) me, make two cards at a time while having the supplies out? I find that so time effective rather than creating cards one by one - I often get ideas for the second card while creating the first one.

You may have noticed that Memory Maze provide you with chipboards in almost any size - from itty bitty micro ones, to large 12"*12". In my July post at the Memory Maze Blog I focus on how to use 6"*6" chipboards and how you can cut them apart to fit your project better.

In my part of the world (Norway) it's summer and the kids are in the middel of their long vacation. We, the adults, don't have as much time off as they do during this period, but we try to use the weekends too, for having some fun together. Four weeks ago I brought my family up in the mountains, and here it was still quite chilly and you could find spots of snow. But if you looked closely you would find tiny little flowers even here, and some of them are just adorable (this is what my journaling says, too).

I have cut both a large Doily Chipboard and a Vintage Mirror Chipboard into two. I placed the doily pieces on top and bottom of my page and tucked the Mirror pieces behind my photo and other embellies. To find the chipboard's product description, please visit the Memory Maze Blog Post.

Often the title is thought of late in the creative process while scrapping, but the title can be the perfect starting point, too. In this blog post I will show you  my third example.

The title is the starting point for this layout. The journaling describes what teenagers are like, and the  photos are just illustrations to emphasize the theme.  I think this layout sums up my teenage son’s year better than if I made one layout showing him and his buddy on the trampoline and one with him gaming, with matching titles.

Sweet dreams.

In my DT post at the Memory Maze blog in June, I talk about where to find inspiration to tell the real stories, and one place is in words/titles. Often the title is thought of late in the creative process while scrapping, but the title can be the perfect starting point, too. In this blog post I will show you  my second of three examples

When I see the title Sweet dreams I think of cute, innocent babies. I don’t have cute, innocent babies anymore. I have one snoring, farting teenager and one snoring, farting teenager wannabe. But I have cats. And cats have a completely different view than me on the concept of Comfy Sleeping. So the title Sweet Dreams give this layout the perfect touch of irony, showing my youngest cat using a measuring tape as a pillow.

I was sent these chipboard words: Mother And Sons. Actually I have never scrapped about that theme and it was about time to do it. I browsed through my photos to find a photo of myself and the kids, and found a not so perfect one taken in London, UK, this Easter. But it was perfect for my theme. The journaling tells how fun it is to have kids old enough to enjoy exploring city life, too. If I hadn’t had this title in mind when I designed the page, the layout would probably have had the title Tourists and the journaling would probably be about our stay in London. Quite boring and obvious.

Memory Maze May work + blog hop winner

A week ago it was my turn to share ideas on how to use useboards on the Memory Maze blog. This time I focused on how to you small items/ATC sized chipboards on different creations. If you want to read the entire article, please visit my post at the Memory Maze blog, but here is the short version:


I started by making these three 2,5"x3,5" pieces.

The first one is used on an ATC (You find all the product information on the Memory Maze blog post):

The third one is used on a layout (There is a lot of white-tailed deers where I live. As my gardens is fenced, just a low fence so my dogs can run free in it, they usually don't visit us. Spring this year must have been tought on the deers with lots of ice on the ground, making it hard to find anything eat, becuase they decided to pay my garden a visit - and they ate the pancies I had on a table next to the kitchen window).

Our theme for this blog hop is Technique, each of our wonderful design team members will show you how to decorate those chipboard pieces or create new chipboard pieces.

My contribution is to show how  to make skin structure to chipboard - I'm going to do it on a dinosaur chipboard.

Start with covering your chipboard with gesso or other paint.
This will prevent your chipboard from sucking ink/paint and
will give crisper colors

Paint or ink your chipboard in desired colors. I have used both
acrylic paint and ink (Ranger Distressing ink)

When paint/ink is dry, cover areas you want a skin structure
on with crackle paint i(t's easier to see the crackles at this photo 
 angel, even if it means colors are not)

To make the crackles more visible, paint over crackle paint with
acrylic paint when crackle paint has dried. While acrylic paint is
still wet, wipe off access paint with a baby wiper. Cover other
parts of chipboard with a glossy varnish for a more even surface.

When completely dried, mount painted chipboard on project.

Magic Mirror In My Hand...

...who has the prettiest feathers in the land?

Feather embellies: The real Kiwi feathers :-)

Answer: my budgie Kiwi :-)

Budgies molt (as cats and dogs shred) and there is an amazingly large number of feathers on such a tiny little bird - you notice when they land on the floor. Most of the feathers are small, down feathers, but there are larger ones too, like the flight feathers from the wings and tails. Those are multicolored on lots of budgies, like Kiwi's. And I collect them as I think they are so pretty.

Patterned papers: Basic Grey, CSI Coordinates. Chipboard: Maya Road (bird), Imaginarium Designs (the reest). Rubons: Basic Grey. Stamps: Kaiser Kraft (grid), unknown (script). Jewles: Scrappers Choice.

 My other budgie, Fluffy, is a white winged/tailed bird. His large feathers are all white and make super cute embellies, too!



I got the inspiration to this layout when I saw CSI case # 64:

Colors: all five used. My dominant color is lime green, found in one of the the CSI coordinates patterned papers: the bird is covererd with it and the title tiles made from the same paper.

Evidence: Bird, stamps, rubons, pen work, jewels
Testimony: Verbs (the words on the white "tiles": Molt- toss - fall - grow- renew

Thank you for stopping by (this poor, neglected blog)!

As in large parts of Europe, we have had a cold, late spring. While the farmers around had the carrots weeds in the gound this time last year, today the ground is frozen. Neither the winter jackets or boots aretucked away yet and I haven't even started trimming the bushes in the garden. But actually, it's quite normal for early April - it has been like this many years before. We just seem to forget if we have had one year with early spring...

But the kids doesn't care much. They have had the trampoline up all winter and jumped the entire season. They have shuffled of the snow, put on wool socks, and jumped away. It's rather interesting seeing them jump with winter jackets, bonnets and mittens :-)

So when is it really spring? Is it on a certain date? Is it at a certain middel temperature? Is it when you can jump in a t.shirt only or wear crocks? The photo on this layout made me ask myself these questions (this is my journaling, too).

Sick

A few weeks back the kids had a week long winter break - and the youngest kid was sick all week long - it looked as it was some kind of the flue.  The winter break came to an end, and then the oldest kid was sick with the same bug.

This oldest child of mine is for sure going the be a Real Man.  While my youngest son just cought an ordinary flue, the oldest one cought the Man Flue.... I say no more...

Memory Maze produucts used: Get Well phrases,

This layout is DT work for Memory Maze. I made a post at the company blog last week where I showed how to use card sized chipboard phrases on different kind of projects, and this layout is one of those projects. On this layout I have chosen to repeat the phrase Get Well to make my wish more powerful. I used the super cute boarder hook chipboard as a base for my "sign" and used two swirl corners to frame the photo.

All the chipboards are painted dark brown with acrylic paint to get a uniform look, and as the rest of my chipboards they have a glossy finish. To balance the design in this layout, I have used the same paint over a mask here and there.

I have a big crush on chipboards, so you can tell I was tickled pink when I was picked to the first DT ever at the Australian chipboard manufactorer Memory Maze

Today I have my first DT post at the Memory Maze blog. I have chosen to show a number of ways to use card sized chipboard phrases on both numbers and cards.
